The Maranoa’s signature event, Easter In The Country is held annually and already has a very loyal following of repeat visitors. With a diverse program of events including the famous goat races, children’s activities, street parade and markets, art show, motor sports, music festival, race meeting and rodeo, this event is a date claimer for everyone’s calendar. The Maranoa is also well known for its country race meetings. In addition to its regular program of race meets the Maranoa hosts several major race meetings throughout the year including the Roma Picnic Races, Roma Cup, Bendemere Cup, Surat Races and Mitchell Diggers Races. A race meeting of a different four legged variety is also gaining in popularity – the Mitchell Camel Races.
In addition to race meetings, the communities throughout the Maranoa host other major equine events such as rodeos, campdrafts and polocrosse. Everyone enjoys the romance of a good old country show. Several agricultural shows are hosted by communities throughout the Maranoa. Along with their traditional programs showcasing arts, crafts, cooking, animal husbandry, market stalls, side show alley and thrill rides, many programs also include feature events which are sure to draw the crowds.
